Photovoltaic Grade Trichlorosilane In Short Supply

Considering that the newly put into production of polysilicon enterprises have more demand for trichlorosilane outsourcing, according to the production rhythm of polysilicon, the supply of photovoltaic grade trichlorosilane will be increasingly tight. Combining the historical prices of trichlorosilane, we can find that the core driving force of this round of price increases has officially shifted from the past cost support to the mismatch between supply and demand. The current polysilicon industry is extremely profitable, it is expected that downstream enterprises to trichlorosilane price tolerance is higher. Companies are likely to make excess profits this year and into the first half of next year.

With the rapid growth of downstream PV demand, photovoltaic grade trichlorosilane continues to be in short supply. The application of PV grade trichlorosilane in the production of polysilicon includes a one-time requirement for the first commissioning, which accounts for about 20% of the total capacity.

Second, the requirement for chlorine supplementation during continuous production accounts for about 10 to 30 percent of total production. On the supply side, the expansion of trichlorosilane production has been conservative in the past. Although a number of industrial and photovoltaic capacity under construction have been put into production from the second half of this year to next year, the overall supply and demand, especially the supply and demand of photovoltaic may still be in a tight balance.
